Behind The Letters P.O.R.N A friend of mine wrote a brief note on facebook about pornograghy. He mentioned few horrible statistics that I will quote:

“Worldwide sex industry sales for 2006 are reported to be 97 billion. To put this in perspective, Microsoft, who sells the operating system used on most of the computers in the world (in addition to other software) reported sales of 44.8 billion in 2006.Whereas 850 million people in the world go hungry every single day. 42 percent of surveyed adults indicated that their partner’s use of pornography made them feel insecure. 47 percent of surveyed families for the Focus on the Family Poll said pornography is a problem in their home. Divorce rates in the world leading countries average on about 50%.The U.S. Customs Service estimates that there are more than 100,000 websites offering child pornography (which are illegal) worldwide. “Most girls who enter the porn industry do one video and quit. The experience is so painful, horrifying, embarrassing, humiliating for them that they never do it again.” quoted by CBS News. Abuse and abuse rates has been increasing at crazy rates in the past 10 years.”

I read this message with a bad feeling about all these numbers. I’m sure that there are still more to be mentioned. After couple of weeks of reading this note, I received a phone call from my friend asking me to read the comments on this note. I was shocked that people from a conservative society (i.e., Jordan) were against him and his note too!

These people were fighting for that it is a women right, and it is a form of art, it is their free will, and them accepting their beloved ones to do so! I’m sure that this type of thinking doesn’t exist in Jordan alone but it already invaded the whole world!
I gave myself a pause trying to understand them and to justify them before I judge; do women rights give them the right of being prostitutes? If yes, then what about your own dignity and private life? If it is a right then why does it bring up social-spiritual-psychological troubles? If it is a form of art then why is it being fought by lots of countries, societies, and even individuals? Why can’t we see porn in advertisements, in streets, and during family time? Why men do not give their wives/sisters/mothers the approval to do porn movies and to be proud of them in front of their friends and relatives? Is it a “phenomenon” that is leading to bringing up societies and individuals to brighter future and stability?

There is only one answer to these questions: pornography is simply a social-spiritual-mental dominant mutation that is leading to an acquired immoral syndrome!

Very well written Ghadeer... I guess you said it all... and if some men see it as a natural right for women then as you very correctly put it : ”Why men do not give their wives/sisters/mothers the approval to do porn movies and to be proud of them in front of their friends and relatives?”... I wish people could open up their minds and see what consequences it has... I can’t believe someone could actually defend this; what kind of values are they spreading around? !!!
